John Pelphrey suited up for the Wildcats in his playing days. That why I always thought it was hard seeing him over on the Gator bench in the early Billy years. Despite, having a rough few years in his first head coaching gig, he is having quite a year with his South Alabama team.
South Alabama was picked to finish fourth in its division. Instead, Pelphrey (left) and his Jags have been the surprise of the league, clicking off a 23-6 record, quite a bounce-back from last year's 10-18 mark. A former Paintsville and UK star, Pelphrey is 59-54 in four years at South Alabama after departing Billy Donovan's program at Florida.
