Freshman Profile: Jim Barrie

The freshman Jim Barrie of the Gators waited patiently in recruiting for the Gators to offer him a scholarship.

You see, he comes from a family where both of his parents are UF graduates and while schools came calling from the likes of Michigan, Florida State, South Carolina, and others, in the back of his mind he always wanted to be a Gator. The offensive lineman is slated to get some playing time this season, but as next year comes around he figures to be a significant part of the offensive line rotation if not a starter.

The part that is making major college coaches fight for his services, is the mean, nasty offensive tackle he becomes whenever he puts on a helmet. At 6-foot-5 and 320 pounds, Barrie is everything a coach could want in a tackle, with a strong work ethic and good footwork added to the natural attributes he has been given.
Barrie arrived this summer and hopes to be more than just a backup this year. Its quite rare when a true freshman becomes a starter on offensive line but its been done a few times before. The Gators have alot of experience coming back on the offensive line this year so he will have to impress in his practice play. Stay Tuned...
