We Can Do Better On Offense

As the Gators embark on the 2006 football season, one thing is for sure. The running game will be alot better. The 1307 yards obtained by the three running back tandem has got to improve. The 10 touchdown dropoff by Leak off his sophomore numbers may of been be due to Chris adjusting to the new offense which in time led Meyer to adjusting the offense around Chris's strengths as a drop back passer. Caldwell missing from the lineup hurt, and having him back is a bonus. With Brandon James, Percy Harvin, and Fayson in mix, there is much added speed and this is exactly what Meyer had in mind in recruiting. Will the offense production be like the Spurrier years? I doubt it. The defenses in the SEC are better. However, the offense the Gators bring to the table this year is as deep as I have seen in years. I expect alot of incoming freshman to contribute immediately. It sure seems as Wynn has a fan in Meyer this year after being in the doghouse most of last year. He needs to show toughness this year and that is what Meyer will be expecting out of him. The following gives a snapshot of the Gator offensive production individually in 2005, and some of the chips Meyer/Mattison have to work with this season:
