Countdown to Kick-Off

The second year of the Gator Football headed by Coach Urban Meyer kicks of tommorow. The Gators have two games in which they can feel good about themselves as these opponents are not expected to give the Gators much of a challenge. That in itself is not the best thing for a team that has to get ready to play on the road in Knoxville in two weeks. It would be in the teams best interest that Urban scrutinizes every phase of the game the Gators don't put up a perfect performance. We don't want the team feeling overconfident in any phase of the game as this level of competition won't really indicated much about where we are.

As we start tommorow of with a fresh new season, it only seems right to go down memory lane and recap the memorable events from our offseason.

The offseason started off with the Gators delivering what some called the best recruiting class in the nation. With Tebow and Leak in the mix at QB, there was talk Meyer might look to the diamond for his third string QB. Meyer was aware of the tough schedule that awaited him in formulating plans for Urban 2.0. The ealy talk was it would be tough for Gators to go unbeaten and challenge others like Texas and USC for this years big prize. Tebow showed up on campus shortly after signing with Gators to start his education early and so that he could also participate in Spring practices. The surprise was that he arrived on campus down 12 pounds weighing in at 230. At the Orange and Blue game, Tebow had a great debut and outplayed Chris Leak. The secondary took a hit when Atkins left the team. The recruiting did not end on a deep 2006 class, as several recruits from Lakeland were ready to join Gators in 2007. The void at CB was solved by a new NCCA rule. Some thought WTNY is here. The coacjing staff rmained intact and got shown the money. We found out about new clock rules at SEC media days. The 2006 season was something that Urban could not wait to get underway. Eventually, practices got underway. Ryan Smith officially transfers and is quite impressive. So much, that Reggie Nelson moved back to his Free Saftey spot. Media Day at UF came and went. The offesnive line had to shift players around do to our RG going down with a knee injury. Which takes us back to the big weekend we have in store with Steve and memebers of the 1996 team returning to the Swamp this weekend. Kickoff is at 6PM.

Go Gators!
