Gator Gymnastics Advances

The Gator gymnastics team was in action this evening in Ann Arbor, competing in the Northeast region to determine who will move on to the NCAA Super-Six team competition.  If you're not familiar with gymnastics (which I'm not, in all seriousness), the Super-Six decides the National Champion squad.

If you've been paying attention to our Lady Gator gymnasts, or watched a riveting piece on ESPN Sportscenter this evening regarding UF's current top-notch athletic program, you would know that they hold the #1 ranking in the land right now -- proving that it's not only our guys on the hardwood and the football field that are tops in their respective sports.

With a score of 197.325, the Gators won the Northeast region to advance to the next round of the NCAA gymnastics postseason.  The Orange and Blue's tally on the evening bested host Michigan, Arkansas, Pittsburgh, Rutgers and New Hampshire.

There won't only team championships being won; The Gators team included event champions on the vault (Breanne King), the bars (Samantha Lutz and Nicola Willis), the beam (Corey Hartung) and the floor exercise (Savannah Evans, Corey Hartung and Amanda Castillo).

I just wanted an excuse to post a picture of

Here is a little bit more of what is in store for our Lady Gators in the upcoming weeks:

Next up, the Gators await Sunday's announcement by the NCAA of team assignments for the two team qualifying sessions at the NCAA Championships. Each of the April 26 qualifying sessions will have three region champions and three region runner-up teams. The top three teams in each of the April 26 qualifying sessions advance to the NCAA Super Six on April 27, where the team champion is determined.

There are some awesome things going on in Gainesville these days; Hopefully our Lady Gator gymnasts can bring another championship when it's all said and done.  That is, if they can get through Kyle's Georgia Gym Dawgs.

Go Gators!
