Today the Lady Gator gymnastics squad, ranked #1 in the country and riding an undefeated streak (21-0-1) on the season, will compete in the opening session of the 12-team NCAA championships today. The start-time for this meet is 3:15, with six of the 12 finalists competing for spots in the "Super Six."

As you can see, the Gators will not have an easy task, especially against some familiar opponents: Georgia and Alabama both will compete in the same session today -- traditional SEC gymnastics powers that Florida has tried to keep up with over the years. In fact the above two make up half of the only four teams that have won championships over the last 25 years. The others are Utah and UCLA, who both are participating in this 12 team competition.
Of the five opponents today, the Gators have taken on three. They defeated Oregon State in their home opener, defeated Alabama in Gainesville and tied Georgia in Athens. The Gators barely edged out the Tide and 'Dawgs in the SEC tournament late last month.
Perhaps we'll be seeing another National Championship in Gainesville in a few days. If this team performs as they have all season, there is a very good chance. Stay tuned.
Go Gators!
