Alligator Army Notebook: January 24th

  • The most impressive thing about the Gators 73-71 win over South Carolina wasn't the way the Gators kept coming off the mat throwing punches. It was Marreese Speights' twenty-two and thirteen night. Speights' had the size advantage going in, but you could see as the game went on that his confidence was rising. Like any good five man, he was efficient, hitting 10 of 13 shots. Speights' 22 points led the team, Calathes had 21 points on 6 of 14 shooting.
  • Various reports listed Jai Lucas as questionable, but playing 32 minutes made it seem like he was 100%. Hodge's foul trouble probably led to keeping Lucas out there, instead of protecting him. Alex Tyus got 19 minutes because this was probably the one game all season UF had a size advantage until the Gamecocks come to Gainesville.
  • My favorite women's sport is starting their spring season. Women's Tennis swept Stetson 7-0 in their season opener.
  • As of 9:40am Eastern time, Gatorsports.com still does not have a story about the alleged Meyer recruiting violations in Gymnastics-gate. Is it because they can't get anyone on record or because they were the ones who wrote the story that blew the issue open and made UF look bad?
  • In recruiting news, four star LB William Green has apparently shut it down, refusing to talk to the media or anyone else. Once again we see the dirty side of the recruiting season. It makes you want to use the Purell after reading Rivals or Scout.
  • I've received some information from sources that the Gators are going to get Tim Tebow some `help' next season. I'm still trying to figure out what or who it is, but apparently Tebow's friend Chuck Norris is involved. Stay tuned.
