Shooting better than 50%, the Gators defeated Georgia 87-71 Wednesday night in Gainesville. It is the fourth consecutive win for Florida (15-5, 4-2 SEC) and fourth consecutive game in which they out-rebounded their opponent.
Alex Tyus led the way scoring 23 points on 10-14 shooting. Kenny Boynton and Erving Walker each scored 21. Walker got a double-double with 10 assists. Billy Donovan extended the bench, playing Erik Murphy and and Kyle McClanahan. Dan Werner came off the bench for 28 minutes, 6 rebounds and 2 points. The Gators forced 19 turnovers, scoring 33 points off of them.
Georgia (9-9, 1-4) kept it close in the first half and made a few runs in the second, but never had enough. Their nearly 60% field goal shooting was done in by their lack of defense and turnovers. Forward Trey Thompkins led the Bulldogs with 24 points with 6 rebounds. The Gators also limited UGA to only 2 second-chance points.
Florida will have to continue their new found offensive efficiency and rebounding Sunday when they get Tennessee in Knoxville.
