Sunday afternoon, Florida limped to a 61-55 win over Morehead State. The Gators allowed the Eagles to score 38 points in the second half, nearly erasing a 17-point halftime lead.
While this was one game on a lazy Sunday against an inferior opponent, it revealed some dangerous trends for the Gators. When their shooting failed in the second half, they could not play effective defense. Morehead State crashed the boards, outrebounding UF 41-36. Morehead's Kenneth Faried dominated UF, scoring 20 points and 18 rebounds. It was another example of a guy with an NBA body dominating, while Alex Tyus and Vernon Macklin were held to single digits in scoring and rebounding.
As for Florida's guard play, the trend of ineffectiveness continues. Both Erving Walker (16) and Kenny Boynton (10) scored in double figures, but combined to shoot 7-23 from the field. They were also 50 percent from the line.
Florida plays FAU on Tuesday and FSU on Sunday. Florida can get by FAU with a half-assed effort, but that won't happen against FSU.
