It took a walk off win Sunday for the Gators to win their weekend series with the Arkansas Razorbacks. The Gators (28-11, 12-6, No. 7) defeated Arkansas (33-8, 13-5, No. 4) on Sunday, 2-1 behind an RBI single by catcher Mike Zunino. UF pitcher Brian Johnson pitched and hit Sunday, doing both brilliantly. Johnson went seven innings, holding the best offense in the SEC to three hits and striking out nine. Leading 1-0, Kevin Chapman came in for a six-out save, but gave up the tying homer. In the bottom of the ninth, Johnson had a base hit and was pinch run for by Cody Dent. Matt den Dekker had a base hit to advance Dent to second. Zunino's single to right was just good enough to get Dent home from second safely. Chapman earned his second win of the season.
On Saturday, Hudson Randall (4-3) and Greg Larson (2 saves) combined to limit the Hogs to nine hit sin the Gators' 8-2 win. Randall and Larson are not strikeout pitchers, preferring to pitch to contact, and left eight Razorbacks on. The Gators did their damage in a 6-run fourth inning. Bryson Smith hit a 3-run homer, his third homer this season. Zunino had a 2-RBI double, as he tries to expand his offensive game.
Friday night, UF lost 8-3. Alex Panteliodis (6-2) struggled late, allowing five runs in 6+ innings.
Florida is third in the SEC, one game back of Arkansas and two back of South Carolina (32-8, 14-4). The Gators next play LSU (28-13, 11-7) in a rare home series during graduation weekend.
