Huge weekend for Gator Softball and Baseball

Gator softball will start the weekend at 3pm today in their SEC Tournament semifinal game against LSU. The Gators (43-7) dodged enough rain drops to defeat Auburn (30-24) Thursday, 9-1. UF got pop from the bottom of the order, with ninth hitter Kelsey Horton driving in three runs. SS Megan Bush also had three RBI. LSU (43-13) needed a walk-off homer to beat Kentucky, 2-1.

UF was 3-0 this season against LSU, outscoring the Tigers 13-3 during their series the first weekend of April in Gainesville.

Florida baseball is tied with South Carolina for the SEC lead and will finish the season at Columbia next weekend. But, UF (34-12, 17-7) can do some serious damage and take a giant step towards clinching the SEC pennant against Georgia (14-33, 3-19) starting today. As their record shows, this has been a long year for the Dogs and their trip to Gainesville comes at a perfect time.

As UF can give UGA their fifth sweep of the SEC season, the Gamecocks (38-11, 17-7) visit West leading Arkansas (38-11, 16-8) who is only one game back of the Gators and Cocks for the SEC lead. Considering the struggles of UGA this season, it is not asking much for UF to take care of business and sweep. If South Carolina and Arkansas can beat each other up, it helps UF, but it still means the SEC pennant will be decided on the final weekend.
