Gator Softball sweeps into Super Regionals to face Arizona State

The Gators were coolly efficient in their three-game sweep of the NCAA Regionals. After defeating Bethune-Cookman and UCF by 6-0 scores, the No. 4 seed Gators (46-8) run-ruled FIU 13-3 on Sunday, clinching a Super Regionals spot. Starting this weekend, The Best Dressed Women In Gainesville will play No. 13 seed Arizona State, who swept through the Amherst, Mass. regional.

Pitcher Stephanie Brombacher (32-6) pitched every inning, allowing eight hits in 19 innings. Brombacher had some pressure on her as her last performance was only 2.1 innings and four runs in UF's SEC semifinal loss to LSU. UF's offense helped Brombacher this weekend with 25 hits and eight players recording RBIs.

Arizona State will be playing in their fifth consecutive Super Regional. In 2008, the Sun Devils won the Women's College World Series. (That was the tournament when the No. 1 seeded Gators lost their first WCWS game and finished a game short of the Championship Series.) After limping to the finish in the historically strong Pac-10, ASU (44-15) outscored Boston U and Long Island 18-4 in their three Regional games. ASU's top starter Hillary Bach (25-7), started game 1 and 3, allowing two runs on ten hits in 11 IP.

All the Super Regional games will be available on ESPN networks and ESPN3.com. If you are one of the unfortunate people with Comcast (like me), you should get ESPN3 for free on your computer.
