Marcus Roberson had been one of the bright spots of the Florida defense, as an active cover cornerback with size and ball skills who flashed promise throughout the Gators' many defensive possessions this fall. Now, Roberson is out for the season with a neck injury, Will Muschamp told reporters at his weekly Monday press conference.
Roberson, a freshman, had started every game at cornerback for the Gators, and apparently left Florida's 17-12 loss to South Carolina with the injury. Muschamp said that Roberson would miss four to six weeks with the injury, which all but rules him out of a potential Florida bowl game. Muschamp didn't elaborate on the injury beyond calling it a sprained neck and nothing permanent. Roberson should be healthy in time for spring practice.
Florida's remaining cornerbacks, as Muschamp listed them, are Cody Riggs, Jaylen Watkins, Moses Jenkins, and Louchiez Purifoy. Of those four players, only Jenkins, a senior, is an upperclassman.
The hits never stop coming, do they?
