Florida Basketball Preview: Erving Walker, Kenny Boynton, Patric Young Named to Preseason All-SEC Team

Florida begins its 2011-2012 men's basketball season November 11 with against Jackson State. We'll be previewing the Gators with posts both short and long each weekday from now until then, and probably a bit after. We'll call it 15 For 15, in honor of Billy Donovan's 15th season as Florida's head coach.

Today, the media selections for the 2011-12 Preseason All-SEC teams were announced, and Florida fared very well: Erving Walker and Kenny Boynton were each named first-team All-SEC performers, while Patric Young was named to the second team. I don't know why eight players were named first-teamers and nine were named second-teamers, and I really can't say that I didn't roll my eyes at that, but I do think this shows a bit of the depth that Florida has. No team has more than three combined selections (Vanderbilt and Kentucky both tie Florida in that department), and only Vanderbilt has more first-teamers, with John Jenkins, Jeffery Taylor, and Festus Ezeli all earning first-team honors.

But remember two things: last year, Florida had four preseason All-SEC selections, with Walker and Boynton joined by Chandler Parsons and Alex Tyus, and freshmen are only rarely given preseason All-SEC honors, meaning that Brad Beal may be being overlooked here.
