Florida Men and Women Fall Short at SEC Outdoor Championships

The Florida Gators came up a bit short in their bids to win the title at the SEC Outdoor Track and Field Championships. The men's team finished in second place with 140 points (Arkansas was first with 157 points) and the women's team finished second (116 points) to LSU who had 146 points.

After the 16th event of the day, the Gator men held 7 point lead over Arkansas but they couldn't hold on. Arkansas has had for the better part of 20 years the best distance program in the country and they dominated as expected. Arkansas got 15 points in the 1,500 meter run, while the Gators received 3 allowing them to take the lead for good.

The Gator women held a 1 point lead over LSU after the 15th event of the day but were overwhelmed the rest of the day as LSU dominated the remaining events. LSU especially dominated the 200 meter run by placing 1st and 2nd in the event and picking up 18 points all but ending any remaining drama.

All in all though, it was a good showing by the Gators. They should be proud.
