Florida Recruiting: Lorenzo Phillips Commits to UF, Fills First Dozen In Gators' Class of 2012

Will Muschamp keeps rolling on the recruiting trail. Lorenzo Phillips, a linebacker from Patterson, Louisiana, has committed to Florida and become the Gators' 12th commitment for the Class of 2012's recruiting cycle, according to Scout.

Scout has Phillips pegged at 6'2" and 205 pounds, and slates him as the 19th-ranked outside linebacker and 213th-ranked player in the country; according to Rivals, Phillips is 6'1" and weighs 200 pounds, and is the 15th-ranked outside linebacker and 146th-ranked prospect in America. Both recruiting services have awarded Phillips four stars.

Muschamp's first dozen recruits in his first full recruiting cycle don't lean to Coach Boom's area of expertise as much as you might think: seven are defensive players, five offensive, and the seven defenders are split nicely, with three defensive linemen, two linebackers, and two defensive backs. There's no defender quite as well-regarded as Ronald Powell (or maybe even Matt Elam) in that group, but Muschamp's got plenty of time to make that happen.

Furthermore, as friend of Alligator Army Lance Davis noted on Twitter, Muschamp poaching a linebacker from Louisiana in a weak year for linebackers is impressive.
