TE Michael McFarland to transfer from the Florida Gators

Redshirt Freshman tight end Michael McFarland will become the sixth player to leave the program since the arrival of Will Muschamp. He is joining the not-so exclusive club of Chris Martin, Janoris Jenkins, Mike Blakely, Javares McRoy, and Chris Dunkley. McFarland was the 24th rated TE recruit in the class of 2010.

Will Muschamp released a small statement today regarding the McFarland transfer:

"Michael and I have come to the conclusion that it is in his best interest to transfer from the University of Florida," Muschamp said in a press release. "We wish him the best as he continues his career somewhere else."

I'm not sure at this moment what the exact reason is for the transfer, but it does sound like this is just a case of "not fitting into the system" once again. McFarland as we all know, did not play last season and missed the spring game this year win an injury. There is also no word at this time on where he plans to play next.

The depth chart is now thin, well, thin-er, at the tight end position. Red-shirt sophomore Jordan Reed (yes, that Jordan Reed), true freshman A.C. Leonard are the lone remaining tight ends on the roster. Sophomore Gerald Christian, according to Gator Country, played some tight end this spring (along with fullback and linebacker), and this transfer appears to move him to offense only.
