Once again, Florida's athletic teams are taking the field for official competitions. And once again, the Gators are winning: Florida's soccer team opened the Gators athletic schedule with a 2-0 win over Miami in Coral Gables Friday night.
Sophomore Taylor Travis and freshman Havana Solaun scored the Gators' two goals, in the 37th and 51st minutes, respectively, and gave No. 9 Florida its second consecutive season-opening win over Miami. The win means that Florida's athletic program will never be winless in 2011, which is nice.
UF coach Becky Burleigh was pleased with her team's effort:
"Our depth is going to be a big asset this season. I thought it made a big difference in the first half when we had the second wave of players come in. They not only kept the momentum going, but lifted it a little bit. That is what we expect from those players because there is so much parity on this team."
The Gators' next game is Sunday at Florida International.
