Depth Charting: Pop Saunders Could Start For Gators Against Florida Atlantic?

The first 2011 Florida Gators depth chart of game week (!) is out in PDF form, and it's worth some quick analysis, even though Will Muschamp has stressed that it's subject to change.

Pop Saunders is starting, huh? De'Ante "Pop" Saunders being listed at the starting free safety and nickel back positions is a) a sign of extreme confidence in a true freshmen b) a sign that the Florida secondary is a place of mayhem and chaos or c) Muschamp just trying to make other people mad enough to practice harder. You pick. In any case, he and Marcus Roberson are the only freshmen listed as starters.

Deonte Thompson is hanging on: To a starting spot at the Z wideout spot, anyway. Quinton Dunbar slots in as the starter at X.

Dear God, the D-line: Left to right, or Buck to DE: Ronald Powell, Dominique Easley, Jaye Howard, Sharrif Floyd. There's some talent there, yes, and then there are Omar Hunter and William Green — William Green, mind, who is on the poster and went to SEC Media Days — on the second line.

John Brantley is the starter at quarterback: And Jeff Driskel is the second-teamer.

Jordan Reed could still return punts: Jordan Reed is listed as the first-string tight end and the second-string punt returner, which almost makes me want Chris Rainey to get just nicked enough for Florida's starting tight end to return a punt. Just once. I think it'll be funny, until my brain explodes.

Your thoughts?
