Navy/Marine Corps Classic: Scottie Wilbekin will not play for Florida vs. Georgetown

Florida will be without starting point guard Scottie Wilbekin and small forward Casey Prather against Georgetown on Friday.

Kyle Terada-US PRESSWIRE

If Florida's going to beat Georgetown on the USS Bataan in Friday's Navy/Marine Corps Classic, it will have to do so without starting point guard Scottie Wilbekin. Florida announced on Thursday through GatorZone's Chris Harry that Wilbekin will not play against the Hoyas because of a coach's decision by Billy Donovan.

Wilbekin is presumed to be the leading candidate to hold the starter's job at point guard in his junior season, starting last week's exhibition game against Nebraska-Kearney and being mentioned as Kenny Boynton's backcourt mate. Boynton will start at the point on Friday, however, meaning that the Gators will miss Wilbekins ferocious defense and steady ball-handling.

Boynton sliding to point guard could mean that Mike Rosario starts with him in the backcourt, and/or that Will Yeguete will start at small forward.

Florida will also be without Casey Prather, recovering from his second concussion in less than two weeks, but Prather was not expected to start for the Gators this season.
