Tracy Howard, the No. 13 rated recruit according to Rivals, has committed to the Miami Hurricanes, announcing the news on television on National Signing Day 2012. Howard, who played for Miramar High School, in Miramar, Florida which is right next to the University of Miami, chose Miami over Florida and Florida State.
Howard said that he chose Miami because of "academics, a great bond with the coaches at Miami and the chance to play with guys he grew up with." Also, he said that the chance to win for his city played a large factor as well.
Despite being considered a Florida lean for a long time, Howard zeroed in on Miami despite pressure from both Florida and Florida State to sign with them. Had he joined the Gators, Howard would have competed with a roster full of talent, but lacking in on-field production.
Howard was the highest rated cornerback in the Rivals rankings, and the No. 13 overall player in the Rivals250. He joins a Hurricane squad that is littered with either young or old defensive backs. He'll be expected to play right away as the Hurricanes look to avoid the mess that everyone is expecting because of possible NCAA sanctions.
