Leonard Williams, the No. 53 rated recruit according to Rivals, has committed to USC, announcing the news on television on National Signing Day 2012. Williams, who played for Mainland High School in Daytona Beach, Florida, chose USC over Florida, Auburn and plenty of other finalists for his services.
Williams was one of the most-coveted defensive linemen available on National Signing Day, and was reportedly considering the Gators along with the Trojans and Tigers up until the announcement of his commitment, but Lane Kiffin and Ed Orgeron are obviously significant foes on the recruiting trail. And Williams may have seen Dante Fowler's commitment to UF as an obstacle to his chances
Williams was the fifth-highest strong-side defensive end in the Rivals rankings, trailing Aziz Shittu and Channing Ward, among others. But Florida will survive without him, thanks to Fowler, Jonathan Bullard, Quinteze Williams, and the rather impressive core that will return for the Gators.
