News and notes from the week in Florida recruiting.

-- It could be an interesting few days for people who follow Florida recruiting. Tons of prospects will make their way to Gainesville Friday night for Florida's Friday Night Lights camp. But before that, the Gators will host a pair of key targets. Vernon Hargreaves III and Jordan Sherit, two highly-rated Tampa prospects, are in Gainesville for a visit.

More after the jump.

Hargreaves recently announced his top five, in order: Florida, Clemson, Vanderbilt, Miami and Notre Dame. He also said he is considering South Florida, where his dad is an assistant coach. USC is notably absent, considering VHIII named the Trojans his leader a week earlier. A decision could come from VHIII soon, probably within a month. But it wouldn't be a surprise if he ended things sooner than that.

Could VHIII end things as early as today? It's very possible. Florida is clearly in the lead, although it's unnerving to see Clemson sitting there at No. 2. And Sherit could also commit on the visit, but I don't think that's as likely. Florida is in a great position for him as well.

-- Friday Night Lights is this Friday. Recruits from all over make their way to Gainesville for a one-night camp under the bright lights of Ben Hill Griffin Stadium. Last year's FNL featured a stellar performance from Stefon Diggs and his blinding neon yellow compression shorts. The visit also left an impression on Diggs, who really started liking Florida after the camp. It wasn't until FNL that Diggs was seriously interested in the Gators. So the camp is a great opportunity to get prospects on campus.

Zach Abolverdi of Gatorsports has a running list of attendees for this year's camp. All 17 of Florida's current commitments will be in attendance. Other notable attendees:

  • Wide receivers Marquez North, Alvin Bailey, Chris Thompson and Taj Williams
  • Offensive lineman Joe Fennell
  • Defensive ends DeMarcus Walker, Antonio Riles and Jordan Sherit
  • Linebackers Dillan Lawson and Keith Kelsey
  • Safety Marcell Harris
Some 2014 and 2015 prospects will also be in attendance. Some names to remember: RB Leonard Fournette, RB Tony James, RB Bo Scarbrough, WR Johnnie Dixon, WR Trevion Thompson, WR Ermon Lane, WR Jacob McCrary, DT Travonte Valentine, DT Demarcus Christmas, LB Kain Daub.

There's always a good chance of someone committing to the Gators during FNL. And current commits are predicting some fireworks.

It wouldn't surprise me to see Florida get two commitments between Thursday and Friday, and there could always be one that doesn't materialize until Saturday or Sunday. But predicting three commitments from Class of 2013 prospects would be a little bit of a stretch.

This is a key visit for DeMarcus Walker, who is still holding to his Aug. 2 announcement date. Alabama is probably in the lead, but a great visit could make things interesting. There's always a chance he pushes his commitment back (he's done it twice already), and that would be a good sign for the Gators.

Marcell Harris is a candidate for a possible commitment, but I don't see it happening this early. He doesn't do many interviews, but he's been considered a Florida lean for a while. Texas and Alabama will be the main competition. I think Harris will hold off on a commitment until at least a month or so from now, possibly after he takes his visits in the fall. It's safe to say he'll probably be in Florida's class eventually.

It should be fun couple of days to keep up with. The Swamp will be open to the public, so if you're in Gainesville and don't have any plans, go check out some of the nation's top football players.
