Florida Football 100 For 100, No. 61: Colin Thompson, One Of The Good Gators

There are 10 days until Florida's September 1 opener with Bowling Green. There are 61 entries left in the 100 For 100 series. Will we finish this countdown in August or October?

There are reasons to root for every player on every team in every sport, if you dig hard enough. It is always nice to know when players seem more like good human beings than not, though, and this is why reading about Colin Thompson's quiet friendship with John Shulby will make him more than a few fans' favorite Gator.

Pat Dooley has the story in The Gainesville Sun, but because Thompson is a freshman, he's not available for interviews, and so Dooley's story is more about how kids can be good. Fortunately, though, there's a YouTube video about Thompson's friendship with Shulby, who has Down syndrome, and it shows a little of why Thompson seems like such a good guy.

Thompson won't be on the field for the Gators until at least early October, thanks to a foot injury that required surgery, but it's safe to say that he'll make a mark on Gainesville in some other way.
