Florida Volleyball Sweeps Sunshine State Foes In Campus USA Credit Union Invitational

Florida's volleyball team began its season in dominant fashion on Friday and Saturday, sweeping through a trio of in-state foes to win the 2012 Campus USA Credit Union Invitational without dropping a set.

The Gators swept Florida International (25-21, 25-14, 25-12) on Friday night, then followed with wins over Florida A&M (25-11, 25-11, 25-14) and Florida Gulf Coast (25-16, 25-19, 25-16) on Saturday to win the tournament, improving to 23-0 all-time in the event. Chloe Mann starred for the Gators all weekend, racking up double-digit kills in each match and setting Florida's season high with 16 against Gulf Coast.

The match with Florida Gulf Coast was also notable for Gigi Meyer's first game against her dad's former school. Meyer had 10 assists in the loss. Urban Meyer did take in one of his daughter's volleyball games on Saturday — but it was in Atlanta, where daughter Nicki's Georgia Tech team defeated SMU.

As for the Gators, their next matches come in the Nike Big Four Tournament, the biggest one of the early season in volleyball. It takes place at Penn State this coming weekend, and Florida will meet No. 2 Texas on Friday and No. 6 Stanford on Saturday. Pulling an upset on either school's squad would be an impressive showing for a young Gators team.
