Florida's Poll Position: Gators at No. 22 in Week 8 USA TODAY Poll, AP Top 25

A loss to LSU wasn't enough to knock Florida entirely out of the top 25 of the college football rankings.

Kim Klement-US PRESSWIRE

The Florida Gators slid five spots in both major college football polls after a loss to LSU, dropping from No. 17 to No. 22 in both the USA TODAY coaches poll and the AP Top 25 for Week 8.

While Florida's loss was its second of the season, the Gators likely got the benefit of the doubt based on their strength of schedule: Both of those losses come to teams ranked in the top 11 of both polls, and on the road. LSU is No. 6 in the AP Poll, and No. 8 in the coaches poll; Miami is ranked No. 10 by the AP voters, and No. 11 by the SIDs who are filling out coaches poll ballots for their bosses.

But Florida's coming schedule may not be enough to save the Gators, even though it gets more daunting on a week-by-week basis. A week after four of Florida's seven remaining opponents were ranked in the top 12 of the coaches poll, and five future Gators foes were ranked in the AP Top 25, four of Florida's six remaining opponents are in the top 16 of the AP Poll, and those same four teams (Florida State, South Carolina, Missouri, and Georgia) are in the top 15 of the coaches poll.

Oh, and the only one of those teams Florida will play in Gainesville is Florida State.

The full polls are both below. We'll have a non-awful version of the coaches poll when it's not solely posted on Facebook due to technical difficulties. Update: And now we have that sortable table version of the coaches poll.
