Five Gators set personal bests, nine qualify for finals on first day of Husker Invite

The Florida Gators saw nine athletes qualify for finals and five set personal bests on the first day of the 2013 Husker Invite.

The Florida Gators track and field teams had a very successful first day at the 2013 Husker Invite as five athletes set personal bests and nine qualified for the finals of their respective event which will take place later today. Kyle Strawn, Destinee Gause, Kyra Jefferson, Dedric Dukes and Moriel Pitt all achieved their personal bests and all five are part of the nine who qualified for a final.

In the women's long jump, Lorraine Graham and Ciarra Brewer finished second and third with best jumps of 6.00 meters and 5.90 meters respectively. Marquis Dendy and Omar Craddock matched the women's final places in the men's long jump with best jumps of 7.60 meters and 7.40 meters.

Jayla Bostic finished second in the women's weight throw with a best distance of 19.74 meters. With that throw, Bostic just missed out on a personal best. In the men's weight throw, Jeremy Postin finished third with a best distance of 20.70 meters and David Triassi finished fifth with a throw of 19.89 meters. Kyle Strawn set a personal best with a distance of 18.51 meters which was good for ninth place.

In the women's 60 meter hurdles, both Destinee Gause and Kyra Jefferson qualified for the finals with times of 7.37 and 7.41 seconds respectively. Ebony Eutsey qualified for the finals in the women's 200 meter run with a time of 24.04 seconds. In the men's 200 meter run, Dukes and Leonardo Seymore both qualified for the finals with times of 21.18 and 21.41 seconds.

The final two qualifiers for a final were Hugh Graham Jr. (400 meters) and Ugonna Ndu (60 meter hurdles).
