Late Wednesday, news broke that Trevon Young, a massive basketball player with only rudimentary football skills, had taken an official visit to Florida and was a candidate to become part of Florida's 2013 recruiting class. Now, on Thursday, multiple reports from various outlets have Young joining the Gators as Florida's 29th commit for the 2013 class. Young's from Braden River High School in Bradenton, and his high school coach has told reporters he will sign his National Letter of Intent on Friday.
When people write massive about Young, it might be an understatement: He's 6'6" and somewhere between 260 and 280 pounds, and though he's got virtually no profile as a football recruit, you can seen that he carries that size well in this video from 247Sports' Josh Newberg, taken last summer.
Young is likely to slot in at tight end first, where his basketball skills — he's Braden River's all-time leader in scoring and rebounding — and athleticism should make him a good project for Derek Lewis to mold. But his size could give him the opportunity to provide depth on the offensive line if he can't break into the rotation at tight end.
Florida now has at least one recruit at every offensive and defensive position in the 2013 recruiting class except for fullback.
