Florida basketball schedule: Gators to play Memphis in 2013-14, according to report

Florida's list of marquee non-conference opponents in 2013-14 gets longer.

USA TODAY Sports

Details continue to leak out about Florida's 2013-2014 non-conference schedule. Two weeks ago, this site reported that Florida would meet Kansas at home during the Gators' 2013-14 non-conference schedule; now, CBS Sports' Jeff Goodman reports that Florida's Jimmy V Classic opponent will be Memphis.

Florida is 1-0 against the Tigers all-time, with the only meeting coming in 1976. The two games will occur almost exactly 36 years apart from the December 18, 1976 neutral site meeting in St. Petersburg, Florida, in which the Gators overcame a three-point halftime deficit to win 84-83.

Memphis is coming off of a 31-5 season that ended in similar fashion to Florida's, with a shellacking at the hands of a Michigan team. The difference is that the Tigers' season ended at the hands of the Michigan State Spartans in a 70-48 loss in the third round of the 2013 NCAA Tournament, while Florida lasted until the Elite Eight before being blasted by national runner-up Michigan.

The game will mark Florida's first trip to New York City since a 78-66 loss at the hands of the Massachusetts in the 2008 NIT.

Update (4:23 ET): Goodman had some more tidbits on preseason tournaments, including an interesting round-round robin that will include (among others) a rematch of last year's game between Florida and MTSU.
