SB Nation's Steven Godfrey reports that Mississippi head coach Hugh Freeze has offers in hand from both Florida and Mississippi, and is "considering" both:
Ole Miss head coach Hugh Freeze is considering an offer to coach at the University of Florida for a base salary in the range of $4.2 to $4.3 million annually, according to multiple sources.
Additional sources confirm the Rebels are attempting to compete with the Gators' offer, pushing Freeze's salary to somewhere near the $4 million range to take compensation out of the question in a potential decision by Freeze between the two schools.
Freeze has been at Mississippi since 2012, and led the Rebels to a 24-14 record, including a 9-3 mark in 2014 that includes wins over Alabama and Mississippi State. He's only been coaching college football since 2005, having transitioned from high school ball to Ed Orgeron's Mississippi staff (along with star player Michael Oher).
A deal with a base salary of $4.2 million annually would be a significant increase on the salary Florida paid Will Muschamp. Muschamp's contract paid him $2.73 million annually prior to bonuses, though his total compensation was closer to the $3 million mark.
