Athlete Deiondre Porter is one of the most versatile piece of Florida's 2014 recruiting class. And that versatility — and his brain — will make him an asset to the Gators.
Recruitment
Porter hails from Jefferson High School in Tampa, and verbally committed to the Gators on January 20. Porter didn't pop up on Florida's radar until after the hiring of Kurt Roper, but it seems likely that the Gators' pursuit of him was related to the depature of Chris Lammons from Florida's class. And he was, er, somewhat pleased to learn of his offer from the Gators:
"I was so excited about the offer that I was running down the hall and my pants fell off," Porter said. "Even though they had a down season they are still Florida and a powerhouse. I don't care how you put it they are good and they will be back up near the top very soon in my opinion. It's good to finally get the SEC offer finally."
Porter was recruited at many positions, but most schools targeted the three star athlete as a defensive back. Porter held offers from multiple BCS programs, including Cincinnati, Rutgers, South Florida, UCF, and Wisconsin.

Future Impact
One thing that pops when you watch Porter's tape is his athleticism. Although he could probably play multiple positions, Porter will start as a developmental defensive back in Gainesville, something Will Muschamp confirmed in his National Signing Day press conference. At six feet and 163 pounds, Porter has ideal size for a corner or safety position, but will need to add a little weight to compete with SEC receivers.
Porter has upside, but expect the three-star athlete to redshirt and take a couple years to put weight on and develop his technique. With good coaching and a healthy training regiment, Porter should be a nice contributor for the program in the future.
