Florida Gators track and field in action at Virgina Tech Elite Meet

The No. 2 ranked men's and No. 4 ranked women's Florida Gators track and field teams head to the Rector Field House in Blacksburg, Virginia this weekend for the Virginia Tech Elite Meet.

Despite starting the season 53-points behind the Arkansas Razorbacks at the beginning of the season, the men's track and field team at the University of Florida has steadily closed the gap on the Razorbacks and are now less than 35 points behind according to the most recent USTFCCCA Poll.

Will the action this weekend in Blacksburg, Virginia be enough to overtake the Razoerbacks and see the Gators claim the No. 1 overall spot? Probably not, but continuing to close the gap isn't out of the question.

Joining the Gators and Hokies in Blacksburg, among others, will be the teams of Duke, Georgia, Kentucky, Miami, NC State, Pitt, Virginia and Wake Forest. So while the competition won't quite be up to the last two weeks, the Gators have the perfect opportunity to stand out amongst the crowd.

The Gators currently lead in the NCAA with their times and distances in the men's 4x4m relay, men's long jump and women's triple jump respectively. As a result of those NCAA-leading marks, Ciarra Brewer has joined fellow Gators Marquis Dendy, Corey McGee and Arman Hall on latest The Bowerman watch list.

(Please note that there isn't a single USC track and field athlete on either list. There's not even a LSU athlete on either list either, but there almost never is, but hey, there is one UCLA athlete. So take that as you wish.)

The action in Blacksburg begins at 5:00 p.m. ET on Friday and ending at around 8:45 p.m. ET. Friday's events include the men's and women's mile, the 60m hurdle prelims and finals and various 200m, 400m and 800m sprints. The meet continues at 11:00 a.m. ET on Saturday with running events scheduled to begin at around 1:00 p.m. ET on Saturday.
