SEC Baseball Power Poll: Florida baseball moves up to No. 3

Florida's been on the rise on the diamond, and our SEC bloggers are taking notice.

Florida's baseball team just had the best week in college baseball, with a road win over erstwhile No. 1 Florida State and a road series win over top-five South Carolina in its fortress in Columbia. This was enough to get the Gators all the way up to No. 3 in this week's SEC Baseball Power Poll.

South Carolina remains No. 1 — where it has been all season — despite losing its series and the SEC East lead to the Gators over the weekend. South Carolina lost leads in both its Saturday and Sunday losses to Florida, with the Gators battering a previously untouchable Carolina bullpen. Florida's two wins in Columbia doubled the number of wins by visiting teams at South Carolina this season entering the weekend.

The Gamecocks also benefited from how voting works: The poll closed on Tuesday afternoon, prior to their Tuesday home loss to Charleston Southern, and runs on Wednesday as a reflection of the previous week. With that midweek loss to a team that moved to 19-20 on the season, the Gamecocks might not have been No. 1.

Florida also sits behind No. 2 Alabama, which leads the SEC West, and is the only team in the conference with 10 conference wins. The Crimson Tide went 2-2 last week, losing a midweek game to UAB and the first game of their home series with Auburn. Alabama has not swept a series this year, and has yet to play South Carolina, Florida, LSU, or preseason No. 1 Mississippi State.

Florida had swept its series with LSU, and its "series" with Florida State, before winning its series at South Carolina this weekend, but also has series losses to Miami, Texas A&M, and Kentucky, and went 1-3 against Illinois and Florida Gulf Coast at home in a weekend tournament that bridged February and March.
