The Florida Gators track and field teams will be off and running this weekend at the 2014 Pepsi Florida Relays at Percy Beard Track, beginning at 10:00 a.m. ET today and tomorrow. The relays actually began yesterday, but most participants on the event's first day were high school athletes. The Florida Relays are the first of two home meets for the Gators this season.
Though the action begins at 10:00 a.m., the Gators are scheduled to begin at around 12:30 p.m. ET with the women's 100m hurdles, with the men's 110m hurdles to begin shortly thereafter. On Saturday, the action resumes for the Gators at 12:00 p.m. ET with the women's 4x100m shuttle hurdles and the competition will end at around 7:30 p.m. ET.
This is the first time this outdoor season that the Gators will be at 100 percent and their entire team will be in one place. We'll be able to see for sure just exactly what this team is made of, and whether or not they're a threat to contend for the SEC and NCAA Championships.
Speaking of Championships, there will be a couple of announcements during Saturday's competition. After the men's 4x100m relay, the Gators will recognize the women's 2014 SEC Indoor Championship with special presentation for the seniors to follow shortly after that. There will also be a special presentation following the men's distance meter medley for the remaining members of the men's 2013 NCAA champions.
You can watch live video of the meet courtesy of FloTrack throughout the meet. Unfortunately, a FloTrack account isn't free, but for a small fee, you can sign up in about two minutes.
