Jaylen Watkins was the forgotten man of Florida's 2014 NFL Draft class.
After playing at Florida for four years, he was regarded as a known quantity upon completion of his eligibility, and seemed like the least exciting of the three Gators defensive backs in the class, given Marcus Roberson's three years of starting experience and Loucheiz Purifoy's occasionally tantalizing athleticism. But while Purifoy and Roberson have struggled during the pre-Draft process, seeing their grades go from first-round hype to mid-round reality, Watkins has excelled at every stage, showing out at the Senior Bowl, the NFL Scouting Combine, and Florida's Pro Day.
And so Watkins, not Purifoy or Roberson, is the Gator I'm guessing will be selected first on Day Two of the 2014 NFL Draft, which spans the second and third rounds this Friday night.
Day Two gets underway at 7 p.m. Eastern, with the same ESPN or ESPN3 and NFL Network or NFL Network Online options for catching it on TV or streaming online. And I'll be in the comments — plus, we'll be publishing Trevor Sikkema's profile of Watkins shortly after the second round begins.
