Florida's 48 for 2014, No. 45: Nobody wants an encore

It ain't to play games with you.

Chuck Cook-USA TODAY Sports

We're doing things a little differently this year, with Florida's 48 for 2014. Yes, the numbering is intentional, but these will mostly be reasons to be excited about the 2014 season, or ways to look at it. And I'm going to have a lot more fun with it than anyone did with Florida's 2013 season — trust me.

When I come back like Jordan, wearin' the fo'-five?
It ain't to play games with you
It's to aim at you, prolly maim you
If I owe you, I'm blowin' you to smithereens

— Jay Z, "Encore"

Andre Debose has been a Gator for five seasons. He is 2-3 against Florida State. He's 2-3 against Georgia. 2-3 against South Carolina. 2-3 against LSU. 0-2 against Alabama. 0-2 against Auburn.

And he has the benefit of a 2009 season he wasn't even healthy for in that accounting 1.

Florida's seniors are 0-3 against Georgia. 1-2 against Florida State, without a win at home. 1-2 against South Carolina and LSU, too. "Just" 2-1 against Vanderbilt, unlike every class of Florida seniors since 1992.

Florida's juniors came in and contributed to an 11-2 redemption of the program in 2012, then a 4-8 nightmare in 2013. Florida's sophomores bought into that redemption and suffered through the nightmare.

Florida's freshman chose to be Gators despite it.

I wrote yesterday about how confidence in their own abilities, and a quest for respect, strike me as more important parts of these Gators' narrative for 2014.

But I'd be lying if I wrote that any one of them wants an encore of 2013.

I'd be lying if I wrote that none of them want revenge.

Star-divide

  1. Of course, Debose is 5-0 against Kentucky ... and Tennessee.
