Chomping at Bits: Gators gearing up for Saturday in a big way

Chomping at Bits looks at the different people and ways the Gators are getting ready for Saturday. Oh, and we also look at the best season opening games since 1994.

Chomping at Bits comes stocked with the best Florida Gators links and news we can find. Got a link we should check out? Email us at AlligatorArmy@gmail.com, subject line CAB, or find us on Twitter at @AlligatorArmy or on Facebook at Facebook.com/AlligatorArmy.

Dante Fowler Jr. hopes to feast: On opposing quarterbacks that is. He's leaner and meaner and ready to go. He's also gone a hockey season without having McDonald's. (Jesse Simonton, Miami Herald)

Gators more disciplined under Will Muschamp: When compared to Urban Meyer, yes, but the pace is the same. But I somewhat agree with the author in that Muschamp wins because of a technicality. (Jonathan Czupryn, The Independent Florida Alligator)

Position battles still on: Some of these are more important (right guard, kicker, punter, safety) than others (running back, corner back) because of depth and a committee approach, but it just goes to show you that opening day depth charts aren't the end all be all. (Nick de la Torre, GatorCountry)

Sophomores ready to lead: I guess it's time (maybe a year early, but circumstances are different this time) to see whether or not the consensus No. 2-ranked recruiting class was worth the hype. (Edward Aschoff, SEC Blog/ESPN)

Adapt or die: Again, it's all about whether or not they Gators can finish the year healthy. (Christopher Scammell, GatorCountry)

Another bowl prediction: Yet another one with the Gators in the Taxslayer Gator Bowl. (Garry Smits, The Florida Times-Union)

Michael Taylor ready to go: And win some games. (Morgan Moriarty, The Independent Florida Alligator)

A short injury list: And that is so exciting! (Robbie Andreu, The Gainesville Sun)

Billy Donovan concerned about unknowns: Specifically an unknown level of consistency within the remaining team. (Kevin Brockway, Hoops Scoop/GatorSports)

Like 36 hours until SEC football begins! About time.

My top five Gators season openers since 1994: Why 1994? Because I was 10 years old and remember everything since... mostly.

  • 1) 2008: Gators 56, Hawaii 10.
  • 2) 1996: Gators 55, Southwestern Louisiana 21.
  • 3) 2003: Gators 65, UAB 3.
  • 4) 2001: Gators 49, Marshall 14.
  • 5) 1994: Gators 70, New Mexico State 21

Bonus points for the second game of the 1997 season in which Central Michigan strolled into The Swamp and left defeated 82-6. We need to just annihilate people again.
