Florida continues to build an offensive line in its 2015 recruiting class. And the latest catch is a large body to mold: Fredrick Johnson, who committed to Florida over Miami on Saturday, according to 247Sports's Luke Stampini, stands 6'6" and weighs nearly 300 pounds — as a 17-year-old.
Johnson hails from Royal Palm Beach High, and was largely presumed to be Miami-bound before Florida's recent push to grab several offensive lineman in this recruiting class. On tape, he's a bit raw:
But he's got a great frame for the position of tackle, with long arms and broad shoulders, and is thus the sort of player who might make significant strides with college-level strength training and coaching.
And Florida, which needs six or seven offensive linemen in this class to supplement a small core of returning players, can't afford to pluck only finished prospects at this point in this cycle.
Johnson, a consensus three-star prospect, is the 12th commitment in the 2015 class for the Gators.
