The Florida Gators are now ranked No. 8 in the newest edition of the College Football Playoff selection committee's rankings which were announced on Tuesday night. The No. 8 ranking is the Gators' highest ever placement in the College Football Playoff ranking system.
The Gators moved up the ranks in the aftermath of their win over South Carolina, although the chaotic week that was in college football played a big part in Florida's rise, as well. Jim McElwain's squad was able to leapfrog No. 13 Utah, No.15 LSU and No. 11 Stanford (all three lost in Week 11) on their way into the top-ten, but they were also passed by No. 7 Oklahoma. The Gators are the fourth-highest rated one-loss team, behind No. 2 Alabama, No. 4 Notre Dame and Oklahoma.
Florida's regular season finale will pit the No. 8 team against the No. 14 Florida State Seminoles. They are also also slated to face off against Alabama in the SEC Championship game.
Florida very clearly has a solid position here, and an upset win over the Alabama Crimson Tide could very well punch the Gators' ticket to the playoff.
