Vernon Hargeaves III and Jonathan Bullard named All-Americans: Hargreaves was named to the First Team while Bullard was named to the Third Team. (You can view the full list of All-Americans here.) It is Bullard's first time being named to an All-American Team. The senior had a very productive season. He led Florida in tackles for loss with 17.5, and recorded 6.5 sacks, while anchoring the defensive line as one of the best run-stoppers in college football.
Hargreaves has now been named an All-American in all of his seasons at Florida, and has moved up a team each year. After making the Third Team as a freshman and the Second Team as a sophomore, Hargreaves was named to the First Team this year in his junior (and likely last) season. Playing in 12 games this year (he missed the East Carolina game, and most of the Vanderbilt game), he recorded 31 tackles and is tied for the team lead in interceptions with four. Hargreaves is the first Florida player to be named to the First Team since Matt Elam in 2012. He is also the first cornerback from Florida to be named to the first team since Joe Haden in 2009. "Recruit daily or die": Florida coaches hosted nine official visitors this weekend and went back out recruiting on Sunday for the last day of the contact period. (Zach Abolverdi, SEC Country)
Jim McElwain to earn at least $75,000 in bonuses this year: McElwain earned two bonuses of $37,500 so far, one for reaching the SEC Championship Game and the other for playing in a bowl game. He could still earn a bonus of $50,000 if he is named the AP national coach of the year, and $25,000 if he is named the AP's SEC coach of the year. McElwain was named the SEC coach of the year by the league's coaches, but there is no bonus for that in his incentive package. (Anthony Chiang, Palm Beach Post)
Gators show energy, good defense in loss: Florida fought the top-ranked Spartans, especially on defense, and kept the game close, even briefly taking the lead, despite suffering from their usual shooting woes. But don't call it a "moral victory" for Mike White's Gators. (Chris Harry, GatorZone; Ian Cohen, Independent Florida Alligator; Kevin Brockway, Gainesville Sun)
"We had chances against one of the best programs in the country. I think there are some positives to take from it, but for us to find satisfaction from a loss would be foolish." - Florida head coach Mike White
Florida women's basketball wins ninth straight: The Gators added to their win streak, defeating Robert Morris 79-52. Florida's high pressure defense forced their opponent to commit at least 24 turnovers for the fifth time this season. The nine game win streak is tied for the fourth longest in the program's history.
