Javarius Davis commits to Auburn over Florida on National Signing Day 2015

Florida misses on yet another potential burner at wide receiver.

Kim Klement-USA TODAY Sports

Florida's potentially fantastic afternoon has been downgraded already, and it's barely begun: Javarius Davis has picked Auburn over the Gators, per Justin Hokanson of 247Sports.

Davis, a four-star athlete from Jacksonville's Ed White High, has great speed, and was thought of as a potential weapon on offense and special teams by the Gators. But he'll be heading to Auburn as a cornerback, at least at first, in the tradition of many defenders who have committed to the brain trust of Will Muschamp and Travaris Robinson.

Missing on Davis hurts for the Gators, who might have made him a wide receiver. It means they'll go 1-for-3 on wide receiver targets today, with Antonio Callaway choosing the Gators and Ryan Davis picking Auburn prior to Javarius Davis's commitment, and also lose Derrick Dillon, a potentially electrifying player.

The onus will likely be on Callaway — and the many Florida receivers other than Demarcus Robinson who have largely failed to distinguish themselves so far — to make plays for the Gators in the open field in 2015.
