In a mild surprise, Florida announced the signing of former Oregon State commitment Keivonnis Davis, a three-star defensive end from Miami Central, on National Signing Day.
Davis was reportedly unsure of whether he would sign on National Signing Day, with potential concerns about his academics and possible space at Florida being among the reasons he would hold off. But with Byron Cowart leading a parade of Gators targets to Auburn, Florida's need for pass-rushers grew greater as the day wore on, and scholarships may have opened up.
As for whether Davis, a relative unknown, can play: Let his highlights do the talking.
That's all done against excellent South Florida competition, for a Miami Central team that has reached five straight state title games — the same one that knocked off Cowart's Armwood team for the 6A state title last December. Davis is a bit undersized at a questionable 6'4" and around 230 pounds, but he's certainly productive and violent on tape.
