Gerald Willis to transfer to Miami from Florida

Now he's really gone. For real.

And now Gerald Willis's Florida career is really, really over.

The talented and tempestuous defensive end will transfer to Miami, the school announced via Twitter on National Signing Day.

Willis was dismissed after "yet another altercation" in early January, then reportedly reinstated by Florida, with the goal to keep him in the program.

Except, well, that didn't last, and now the Gators have lost the only five-star recruit from Louisiana to ever leave the state and come to Gainesville (as far as I know, anyway).

Florida was obviously operating as if Willis was unlikely to return in recruiting, targeting defensive ends beyond just five-stars Byron Cowart and CeCe Jefferson, and landing a couple (in addition to Jefferson).

And while it's going to be hard to replace Willis, who plays football with a violence that is very, very useful to a team, not having a presence who was disruptive and childish in 2014, at least by some accounts, might be a blessing in disguise.
