Florida Gators Weekend Open Thread: Gators teams look to sully Kentucky, stay perfect

One Florida team wants to end an unbeaten season. Another one wants to keep theirs intact.

Mark Zerof-USA TODAY Sports

While one set of Gators is trying to blemish an unbeaten this weekend, another entered the weekend trying to avoid giving up the goose egg in the loss column.

Florida's men's basketball team's trip to Kentucky on Saturday, set for the afternoon showcase slot on CBS, is no doubt the highest-profile Florida sporting event of the weekend. But the Gators' lone No. 1-ranked team (in action, that is) has history to make and a record to defend, and the Florida softball team will be doing that at the Judi Garman Classic this weekend in California.

Florida's softball team has already gotten off to the best start to a season in school history, thanks to a win over Arizona earlier on Friday, and the Gators and No. 2 Oregon are currently locked in the biggest game of the Garman Classic.

But that's not the only showdown featuring a Florida team that is the defending national champion in its sport (because #EverythingSchool, obviously): The Florida gymnastics team is in Oklahoma this Friday night, meeting the Sooners squad that shared the 2014 national title with the Gators for the first time since the Super Six. And Bridget Sloan juuuust might be competing as an all-arounder for the first time since Florida's first meet of the year.

Elsewhere, Florida's baseball team welcomes Maine to Gainesville after splitting midweek home (win) and road (loss) games against top-10 UCF (???), its women's golf team is playing the only home tournament of the season in the SunTrust Invitational, the Florida lacrosse team will face off with Niagara on Saturday, Florida's men's and women's tennis teams are beginning SEC play, and Florida's men's golf team is chilling in the desert.

Here's the Friday schedule table. All times Eastern. Saturday and Sunday schedule tables to come! (For real this time. I promise. I promise.)
