Florida Gators Weekend Open Thread: Baseball, softball at home

With finals on the docket, only two Florida teams are in action.

It's a very quiet weekend for Florida Gators sports — you know, other than that Billy Donovan thing. With final exams beginning today, and a slew of postseason competitions beginning next week, most of Florida's teams aren't in action.

The two that are? The Gators baseball and softball teams, which take on Kentucky and Texas A&M on their respective diamonds this weekend.

The softball team kicked off the weekend of twin homestands with a 7-3 win over the Aggies on Friday, and will have Senior Day festivities on this Saturday, with a chance to run their record to 46-4 — two games off the program's best mark ever through 50 games.

Florida's other diamond dogs fared far worse on Friday, getting shut out for the first time in almost a calendar year in a 3-0 loss to Kentucky in which the Gators left 10 men on base, helping to waste a quality start from Logan Shore (7.1. innings, three earned runs, seven strikeouts). To avoid losing the series on Saturday, Florida will have to do better at the plate against Dustin Beggs, who leads Kentucky's weekend rotation in ERA at 2.78 even after Zack Brown lowered his to 2.81 with a scoreless outing on Friday.
