Austin Appleby to start; Feleipe Franks to be QB No. 2: Jim McElwain announced that Feleipe Franks will serve as Appleby’s backup. Appleby was named the starter yesterday. (Edgar Thompson, Orlando Sentinel; Robbie Andreu, Gainesville Sun)

McElwain stated that he would not hesitate to play Franks if Appleby struggled:

“We're not afraid at any point of him playing. And yet, Austin is going to take those first snaps. We'll see where that piece goes as we move forward. We need a spark and Feleipe could be that guy.”

Injury updates for South Carolina game: Jarrad Davis has gone from “probably out” to ruled out. CeCe Jefferson, who was thought to be a game time decision, was not completely ruled out but Jim McElwain noted that it was highly doubtful that he would play. Alex Anzalone, Luke Del Rio, Cameron Dillard, Mark Herndon, and C.J. Worton are all still out. Chris Thompson and Tyrie Cleveland both returned to practice this week.
