Florida lost a member of its 2017 recruiting class today, as previous Gator commit and 4-star defensive tackle Fred Hansard switched his commitment from UF to Penn State. Hansard had committed to the Gators back in August and had considered other schools including Penn State, Rutgers, Michigan, and Tennessee.

Hansard, who is from Princeton, New Jersey, had visited State College, Pennsylvania, home of the Nittany Lions, twice in the last month, including taking an official visit this weekend. He had attended Florida’s Friday Night Lights event back in April and attended the South Carolina game earlier this month.

The Gators now have 14 commits in their 2017 class. Defensive tackle is a position of need for the Gators. Losing Hansard, coupled with Jordon Scott’s decommitment early this month, leaves Florida with one current commitment at the position for the 2017 class - 3-star junior college transfer Javier Edwards.
