UF professors help discover gravitational waves
David Reitze is currently on extended leave from the University of Florida while serving as the executive director of the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-wave Observatory. As is being announced today, LIGO observed gravitational waves for the first time last September, a scientific discovery so important that it helps confirm some predictions of Albert Einstein's general theory of relativity. A full press release from the UF LIGO Group is available here, detailing how UF professors, including Reitze, have been instrumental in this field of science.
