National Signing Day 2016: Florida Gators commits become signees with Letters of Intent

Florida's going to get a bunch of faxes today.

On National Signing Day, commits become signees, bound to the schools of their choice by completed scholarship paperwork and/or signed National Letters of Intent, which are often faxed to various institutions.

Florida should receive upwards of a dozen such faxes on Wednesday, and will be sure to publicize them when they are authenticated, confirmed, and cleared. We'll document such publicity here.

7:19 a.m.: Mount Dora center Brett Heggie is the first Florida commit to become a signee on 2016's National Signing Day.

Heggie is expected to provide depth at the center position, and is likely to redshirt behind Tyler Jordan and Cameron Dillard in 2016.

There's apparently a short lag between faxes being sent and confirmed. Heggie tweeted that he was "officially" a Gator at 7:06 a.m., but Florida didn't send its tweet welcoming him until 7:19 a.m., likely after doing routine verification.

Of note in the Gators' graphic: Florida is showing recruits in its non-standard white helmet, worn in 2015 for the first time in school history, in graphics; Florida is also depicting position, hometown, hand size, and arm size on the right side.

I wonder how many the Gators have prepared for various prospects on Wednesday.

8:01 a.m.: Defensive end Jachai Polite of Daytona Beach Mainland is Florida's second confirmed NSD signee.

His Twitter handle is the best.

8:19 a.m.: Cocoa offensive lineman Jawaan Taylor has sent in his Letter of Intent, according to his high school coach.

In addition, Gator Country is reporting that Theodore, Alabama running back Lamical Perine has sent in his LOI to Florida.

8:27 a.m.: Jawaan Taylor's signing has been announced.

9:11 a.m.: Lamical Perine's signing has been announced.

9:47 a.m.: Rick Wells has been confirmed as a signee.

We're waiting on Florida announcing the signings of C.J. McWilliams, Jeremiah Moon, and

10:16 a.m.: Add C.J. McWilliams to the list of announced signees.

10:20 a.m.: Antonneous Clayton, the highest-rated prospect in Florida's class, has faxed in his Letter of Intent.

Clayton also tweeted a picture of himself signing said letter.

After Florida had to play a bit of defense for Clayton in the month of January, it's a minor relief to have him on the precipice of officially being a Gator.

10:30 a.m.: Talk about speed: Florida's already announced Clayton's signing.

That alacrity is appropriate for a player with alarming burst off the edge.

10:42 a.m.: Jeawon Taylor, another longtime Florida commit who had listened to overtures from other schools, is sticking with the Gators.

2:55 p.m.: Been a long time and I shouldn't have left you, etc., but Florida's officially announced all of its publicly known signees.
