2016 NCAA Tournament, Elite Eight open thread: Will the cream rise?

It seems likely that the best team in America is still alive in the NCAA Tournament. And so is Syracuse!

Bob Donnan-USA TODAY Sports

With just seven games left in the 2016 NCAA Tournament, we're assured of two things:

  • The ACC is going to have a team play for the national championship.
  • Many of the same people who have responded to the SEC's decade-plus of dominance in football will suddenly be beating their chests about teams doing well in a crapshoot of a tournament.

I have a feeling that the best team in America is still alive in the NCAA Tournament, and I have a sneaking suspicion — despite North Carolina suddenly knowing how to make threes — that that team is playing in Saturday's late game, which features Kansas and Villanova. (And yes, I know Virginia is No. 1 in KenPom.) I'm curious to see how this chalky Elite Eight goes, not least because I think I want to watch good teams play for the title.

Sorry, Syracuse.
